McCulloch County Census Data

McCulloch County was formed from the Bexar District in 1856 by the 6th Texas State Legislature and was named after Ben McCulloch, a soldier in the Texas Revolution, a Texas Ranger, a U.S. marshal, and a brigadier general in the army of the Confederate States during the American Civil War. The county covers approximately 1,062 square miles, lies 250 inland from the Guilf of Mexico and is bordered by Brown, Coleman, Concho, Mason, Menard and San Saba Counties. Brady is its county seat, is largest town in McCulloch County, and is the nearest town to the geographical center of the state of Texas. Other communities in McCulloch County include Doole, Lohn, Melvin, Rochelle, and Voca. The county is served by three independent school discticts: Brady, Lohn and Rochelle.
