American Cancer Society Relay for Life (April 15-16, 2005):
The American Cancer Society will hold its annual Relay for Life at the Brady High School track on Friday and Saturday, April 15-16, 2005. The event features teams of walkers walking continuously on the track from 7:00 p.m. on Friday night to 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. A special feature is the first lap of the event featuring cancer survivors and the lighting of the luminaries. Many other events, including an auction, are planned. McCulloch County Helping Hands Barbecue Dinner (April 23, 2005):
McCulloch County Helping Hands hosts its annual barbecue dinner on Saturday, April 23, 2005, from 11:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. The dinner features barbecue sandwiches, potato salad, and cole slaw, as well as dessert and iced tea. Patrons can eat in at the Helping Hands Center as 906 E. 11th Street in Brady or call 597-2646 for home delivery. Volunteers will deliver meals anywhere in the Brady area. Cost of the dinner is $6.00 for adults and $3.00 for children. All of the proceeds support the continued operation of Helping Hands. Project Graduation (May 27, 2005):
Project Graduation will be held on a Friday night on Friday, May 27, 2005, at Curtis Field Airport on Highway 377N in Brady. The alcohol-and drug-free party for all high school seniors in McCulloch County honors graduates from Brady, Lohn, and Rochelle High Schools. Games, music, food, and door prizes highlight the evening. The event starts at approximately 10:00 p.m. and lasts until 3:00 a.m. The event is free. Heart of Texas Golf Association Memorial Day Golf Tournament (May 28-30, 2005):
The Heart of Texas Golf Association will host its annual Memorial Day Golf Tournament on May 38-30, 2005, at the Brady Municipal Golf Course. Golfers from all over the state of Texas will participate. Entry fee is $150 per person. For the championship flight, medal play will determine who will qualify for Monday play. Heart of Texas Thunder Drag Boat Races (June 4-5, 2005):
Drag Boats Side by Side
The Southern Drag Boat Association will be in Brady at Brady Lake on Saturday and Sunday, June 4-5, 2005, for the fourth annual Heart of Texas Thunder Drag Boat races. Drag boat racers from all over the southern United States will compete for prizes in many different racing categories. Other races are held from May-September in Waco, Cleburne, Marble Falls, Fort Worth, and Bryan, Texas, as well as Chouteau, Oklahoma, Wichita, Kansas, and Pine Bluff, Arkansas. Numerous food vendors will be on the grounds with a variety of cuisine for the public. The public is urged to bring lawn chairs for viewing and coolers on wheels or in a wagon. Miss Heart of Texas Pageant (June, 2005):
Beta Sigma Phi will hold its annual Miss Heart of Texas Pageant on a Saturday in June, 2005, at 7:00 p.m. at the Brady High School auditorium. Chosen from among 10-12 McCulloch County high school juniors and seniors will be the reigning Miss Heart of Texas and her court for the Year 2004-2005. 2004-2005 winners include the following:

Brady/McCulloch County July Jubilee (July 1-4, 2005):

The Brady/McCulloch County Chamber of Commerce will hold its 79th July Jubilee during over Independence Day. The celebration starts on Saturday, July 1st, with our annual parade. The parade will start at 10:00 a.m. with the entrance being located at Richard's Park on the west side of Brady and ends up at the square in downtown Brady. Over 100 entrants have traditionally participated in the parade, including a number of floats from surrounding communities. The celebration continues with a street dance to be held on Saturday night, July 2nd, on the east side of the square in Brady starting at 9:00 p.m. Finishing off the festive weekend will be gigantic fireworks display by PYROTEX at the Brady Lake at dusk, preceded by a free watermelon feast and patriotic music provided by the Heart o' Texas Jubilee Band at the lake pavilion. Children's games will also be available for families at the pavilion. The Brady/McCulloch County Chamber of Commerce will hold its 32nd-annual World Championship Goat Cookoff during over Friday and Saturday of Labor Day Weekend at Richards Park. The celebration features 125 cooking teams assembled from all over Texas and the United States, cooking goat each in their own way. Cooking teams have traveled from as far as England to participate. Over 100 arts and crafts booths, kids games, horseshoe and washer pitching, and other events round out the day at the park.
At the end of the day, judging of the cooking team entrants occurs with prizes being awarded to top three teams. A Super Bowl winner is also announced from entrants of previous winners. Many other winners are announced, such as the Best-Looking Cooking Camp, the best designed arts and crafts booths, and the winners from the horseshoe and washer pitching competition. California Rock-crawling and Off-road Championship Event
(September, 2005):
California Rock-crawling and Off-road Championship Series (CALROCS) will normally sponsors a local meet at Katemcy annually in late-September. The event will feature competition between off-road vehicles negotiating huge granite rocks at the Katemcy course. Off-road vehicles will come from all over Texas and the Southwest for this event. St. Patrick's Catholic Church will hold its Fall Festival on a Sunday in early-October, 2005, at the Brady Civic Center. McCulloch County Helping Hands will host its annual garage sale at the center's location at 906 E. 11th St. in Brady on a Saturday in late-October, 2005. This annual event features clothes, dishes, household goods, and other collectibles. Proceeds from the sale go toward the operation of the center. First Christian Church Annual Bazaar (November, 2005):

El Flamingo Restaurant will host its ninth-annual Toys for Tots Thanksgiving Dinner on Thanksgiving Day in November, 2005 at the restaurant's location at 1928 S. Bridge St. The dinner is free for all who wish to participate; however, donations are accepted for the Helping Hands Toys for Tots program. In 2004, the dinner raised over $3,000 for the Toys for Tots program. McCulloch County 4-H/FFA Junior Livestock Show (January 10-11, 2006):
The McCulloch County 4-H and FFA programs will sponsor a Junior Livestock Show for all students in McCulloch County on Friday and Saturday, January 10-11, 2006. Students exhibit all types of livestock, including cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, and rabbits. Numerous prizes are awarded to the students, and the animals in each category are sold in a public auction at the end of the show. In the 2005 show, approximately $90,000 was raised from area individuals and businesses to support the youth in this activity. The Brady/McCulloch County Chamber of Commerce will hold its Annual Banquet on a Monday in January, 2006, at 7:00 p.m. at the Ed Davenport Civic Center in Brady. The banquet features a speaker and entertainment. Highlights of the evening include the presentation of the Distinguished Public Service Award, Citizen of the Year, and Lifetime Achievement awards. St. Paul's Episcopal Church Mardi Gras (February, 2006):
The annual St. Paul's Episcopal Church Mardi Gras Celebration will be held on the Sunday before the beginning of Lent from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the South Ward Cafeteria on 11th Street. A meal of chicken and sausage gumbo with rice, salad, dessert, and drink will be $6.00 for adults and $3.00 for children. Take out orders and deliveries will be available. Famed Brady Bulldog Band Boosters Auction (February, 2006):
The Famed Brady Bulldog Band Boosters will hold its annual auction on a Saturday in February, 2006. The auction is broadcast live over KNEL-AM/FM radio and cable Channel 11. Items for the auction are donated by businesses and individuals in the area. In addition, Javier Paniagua, owner of the local Sonic Drive-In, donates half of the proceeds from sales on the Saturday of the event. In 2005, the auction raised about $11,000 to support activities of the band.
